Former Minister of Finance under the late Atta Mills'-led administration, Dr Kwabena Duffour, has assured that if he wins the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential primaries and eventually elected president he will fix the economy within two years.
According to him, he would roll out pragmatic policies and programmes to transform the economy to a resilient one which had been destroyed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to alleviate Ghanaians from the current hardship the country was facing.
Dr Duffour said the country's debt of GH¢600 billion would be tackled first to free the economy so as to create jobs and prosperity for the citizenry because under his tenure as Minister of Finance in 2009, GH¢1.20p was to one dollar adding that "the Cedi only appreciated 40 pesewas within my four year period in office."
Speaking during a meeting with party delegates in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital on Thursday, he declared that the NDC was coming back to power in 2025 since Ghanaians were yearning for change and were fed up with maladministration of the current government.
The presidential hopeful appealed to delegates to vote for him on May 13, 2023 to lead the NDC to the 2024 general election to enable him bring smiles back to the faces of the people as was done in 2009 when NDC won power.
"Among the many plans I have for the party include institute pension scheme for cadres and founding fathers of the party as well as revive the heroes fund project established by the late President Mills to care for destitutes in the party.
"I will make necessary investments for NDC especially buying of shares in banks and other multinational companies to rake in revenue for running and up keep of the party, we will not engage in "galamsey" to fund party activities as is being done by the New Patriotic Party,"Dr Duffour alleged.
He pointed out that appointment in his government would involve the grassroots with the appointment of presidential staffers from all the 275 constituencies so as to deal with issues in the party coming from those constituencies.
He called for unity in the ongoing campaign due to the family nature of the contest and everybody would be needed after the elections for the bigger task ahead.
