Ghana: Truck Crashes Trader to Death

A 51-year-old trader at the Dr Mensah Market in Kumasi, was killed in a gruesome accident on Thursday morning.

Akua Serwaa, was crashedto death when a truck loaded with second-hand clothing ran into pedestrians at the market.

An eyewitness said that the driver of the truck, with the registration GT 7452-11, lost control of the steering wheel, possibly due to brake failure.

The truck after hitting a stationary taxi cab,ran over the woman, who traded along the roadside.

The body of Serwaa, a resident of Antoa, in the Kwabre East District, Ashanti Region, had been deposited at the mortuary at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

A source at the Manhyia Police station confirmed the incident.

Some opinion leaders have spoken against trading along the roadside in Kumasi.It is common to see traders mostly females, doing business sometimes very close to the road.

This development impedes the movement of pedestrians.
