As part of the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact taking place June 22-23 in Paris, the President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, will participate in a session on Debt and SDR Channeling: Where are we and how to go forward?
The event is one of the six main roundtable discussions taking place during the Summit. It will be held at 13:30 in the Palais Brongniart, Paris.
Adesina will be joined by Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; the President of Chad, Mahamat Déby itno; Kais Saied, President of Tunisia; President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe; Prime Minister of Rwanda, Edouard Ngirente; and Sri Lanka's Prime Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena. Deputy Prime Minister of Spain, Calvino Nadia, will serve as moderator.
The discussion will focus on the lessons that can be drawn from recent debt restructuring processes in both low-income and middle-income countries. It will also examine the status of efforts to channel IMF Special Drawing Rights, the development community's stance on such efforts and how to move the process forward.
Convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, the Summit for a New Global Financing Pact seeks to rally political leaders, representatives of financial institutions, the private sector and civil society to lay the foundation for a new financial system that addresses inequality, debt overhangs, climate change and protecting biodiversity, and which is responsive, fairer and more inclusive. Chinese Premier Li Qiang and U.S Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen are expected to attend.
