Nigeria: 'Arguments Settled', Bill Gates Spark 'Old Cats' Debates With Rema, Burna Boy Remark

21 June 2023

American business mogul, Bill Gates has set social media agog with his statement on Nigerian music sensations Burna Boy and Rema.

Debate on who belongs to the old cats and new cats category had held sway a week ago after Davido placed Rema and Burna Boy in the same category, labelling them new cats.

The debate now seems to have been brought back on social media by the comment of Gates with many music fans enthusing that the billionaire philanthropist has settled the argument.

Gates, in an interview, revealed how his daughter was excited he was visiting Nigeria as it presents an opportunity to meet Rema and Burna Boy.

The billionaire then recounted how the last time he was in the country, he saw Davido and Wizkid perform.

He said, "When my daughter Phoebe heard I was coming to Nigeria, she said, 'You're lucky because you get to see Burna Boy and Rema,' so I had to look them up...because I'm so 'hip'. But I remember the last time I was here, I got to see Davido & Wizkid perform."

@Omojuwa wrote, Bill Gates is inadvertently fuelling the old cats and new cats debate. The only thing missing was that he didn't use the word « cats ». Everything else here is on the agenda.

@attah_akor; Bill gates indirectly called Burna boy a new cat

@KhaleedSZN; Davido and Wizkid really are the biggest afrobeats artists out rn. With what Bill gates said. I think we can all agree Burna boy is indeed a new cat, same set with Rema. Thank you

@alexlobaloba; Bill Gates just settled the new cats and old cats debate.

@kelvinekerete; Bill Gates has settled the Old Cats/ New Cats argument.
