As a Standard Bearer I believe that the most difficult and consequential decision I have made is who I picked as my Vice Standard Bearer.
I wanted someone who loves the Lord. When you love the Lord you are obedient and humble. You won’t come into power and change because you know who you are depending on.
I wanted someone who loves Liberia because you do not destroy something that you love. You protect it, you nurture it, you grow it.
I wanted someone who has competence, character, and compassion. I wanted a woman, and I wanted her between thirty five and forty five give or take two years.
It’s the woman part that I want to expound on.
We are to love and understand our women. We are to nurture them and support them. We’re intertwined with them until that perfect day.
I believe that an essential component to talking about women empowerment is by demonstration. There can be no better demonstration than selecting a woman as my Vice Standard Bearer because this simple action speaks volumes about my commitment to women’s rights.
Women will play an integral role in my administration because I will empower and protect them. I stand with children, I stand with the voiceless, I stand with those who are oppressed and disadvantaged. And, I stand against rape and violence against women because I stand with women.
Liberia’s greatest and most underutilized asset is our human resource capacity. We have failed to build our people. No more. I will build our women, I will build our people.
