There is a negative correlation between accessibility to clean drinking water, accessibility to affordable electricity, and poverty. The more inaccessible clean drinking water and affordable electricity is to our citizens, the poorer they will be. It's not enough to have road connectivity—and I believe that every village should be connected by road—we need to have electricity, water, drainage systems and internet connectivity to go along with it.
We cannot move forward without a comprehensive plan to develop Liberia across all sectors. To avoid land issues that we currently have, we need to establish title companies that must sign off on any land transaction.
Health care is another area to which we must attend. I see no reason why our citizens should die from minor illnesses like malaria, typhoid, or because of hospitals with no oxygen because the electricity did not work. We need to begin by resourcing one hospital completely. There are more than three thousand Liberian medical doctors in the United States. I believe that these doctors still carry a torch in their hearts for Liberia. We can create a program that will allow them to come on a rotational basis throughout the year. They will be able to train our doctors here, and our doctors will be able to show them things about illnesses in Liberia that they may not know. I believe that we can start with them working as a cohesive unit and expand services accordingly. We can build our health service one block at a time.
Education is a game changer because the mind is a potent and powerful tool. We must inculcate our people with the right values, the right mindset, so as to make them productive irrespective of where in the world they end up living. We should be known as a people who add value to Liberia as well as outside of Liberia. Our curriculum must be culturally sensitive and geared towards technology. When we develop our people, our people will develop Liberia.
I am excited about the opportunities before us as a nation. I believe that this is the absolute best time to be a Liberian and I am confident that the moment has come to change the trajectory of Liberia.
I've heard it said that a belief is what you hold; but a conviction holds you. This election is about my conviction and your conviction. Which candidate we support reveals who we truly are .
God bless Liberia.
