Africa: Speaker Chambers to Attend African Parliamentary Union Conference

Liberia's House Speaker Bhofal Chamber has been extended an invitation to participate in the 80th Session of the Executive Committee and the 45th Conference of Presidents of National Parliamentary Assemblies of the African Parliamentary Union (APU). The event is scheduled to take place from December 11 to December 15, 2023, in the vibrant city of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

Under the distinguished leadership of Mabel Memory Chinomona, President of the Senate of Zimbabwe and Chairperson of the APU Executive Committee, the conference is expected to will address critical issues facing the African continent. Two central themes will be under discussion: "Combating insecurity and terrorism, factors of political instability and recession" and "The development of intra-African trade with a view to the effective implementation of the African regional integration agenda."

The APU Committee of Women Parliamentarians, led by President Mabel Memory Chinomona, is scheduled to convene on December 13, 2023. The focus of their discussions will center on "Promoting the role of African women in stimulation of intra-African trade," emphasizing the crucial role of women in driving economic development and regional integration.

The invitation, signed by President Mabel Memory Chinomona, expresses the desire for the active presence and participation of House Speaker Bhofal Chamber. This recognition underscores the significance of Liberia's role in shaping the future of the African continent, particularly in addressing key challenges and advancing the agenda of regional integration.

The African Parliamentary Union (APU) is a continental inter parliamentary organization set up in Abidjan on 13th February, 1976 with the goals of promoting unity of action among parliamentary institutions of all African States; Dedicating the APU as forum of National Parliaments of the African continent and as instrument of dialogue and parliamentary cooperation in the service of peace, democracy, good governance and sustainable development; striving for the systematic establishment of an authentic law-based African community founded on the political, economic, social and cultural realities of the continent; encouraging contacts among African Parliamentarians, on the one hand, and between African Parliamentarians and Parliamentarians of other continents, on the other hand and among others.
