The African Development Bank will host a side event at the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) to provide an update on initiatives from the second African food summit held in Dakar in January to boost food production and resilience.

The side event, titled 'Post Dakar 2 African Initiatives for Food Sovereignty and Resilience: Lessons Learned and Perspectives,' will rally African leaders and development partners to discuss partnerships to leverage additional funding to transform African food systems and respond to climate change challenges.

Speakers will include

Her Excellency Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko, Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment, African Union Commission (AUC),

Honorable Hussein Bashe, Minister for Agriculture, United Republic of Tanzania,

Honorable Samba Ndiobène Ka, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Equipment and Food Sovereign, Republic of Senegal.

His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Sadiki, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Kingdom of Morocco.

Mr. Mohammad Alsaati, Special Advisor to the President, Islamic Development Bank

Mrs. Puri Jyotsna, Associate Vice-President, International Fund for Agricultural Development

Mr Enock Chikava, Director of Agriculture, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Dr. Laouali Garba, Manager Agricultural Research, production, and sustainability Division, African Development Bank.

With increased demand for climate-smart agricultural technologies, Africa's agriculture and agribusiness sectors have the potential to become a $1 trillion market by 2030. Under the 2003 Maputo Declaration, at least 10% of public expenditure should be committed to agriculture to increase productivity and reverse the stagnation of African agriculture. However, only a few countries have complied with the declaration; hence, the African Development Bank and the African Union organized the January summit to explore ways to transform Africa's agriculture.
