The African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation and the Government of Rwanda will sign the Host Country Agreement for the Foundation in Kigali on the 18th of December 2023. This will be followed by the signing of a separate memorandum of understanding between the Foundation and the European Investment Bank and a press conference (in-person and virtual).

Attendees at the signing ceremony will include Dr Vincent Biruta, Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Dr Akinwumi A. Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group; Professor Padmashree Gehl Sampath, CEO of the African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation; Dr Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany; Gelsomina Vigliotti, Vice President, European Investment Bank; Markus Berndt, Managing Director, EIB Global; and diplomatic representatives of African and other countries.

The African Development Bank Group's Board of Directors approved the setting up of the African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation as an independent body in June 2022.

The Foundation has significant technical and financial support globally and within Africa. Its work will be central to Africa's pharmaceutical sector. It is the first of its kind to foster collaboration between the public and private sectors in Africa, North America, Europe and the rest of the developing world.

The Government of Rwanda has played a pivotal role in anchoring the African Pharmaceutical Technology Foundation and granting it the status of an international agency.
