The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Okoro Alawari, has banned any form of procession, religious and traditional ceremonies in the name of celebration in public places in the state during this yuletide.

A statement by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Alabo Alfred, said the directive was to maintain peace and ensure the safety of the citizens, adding that the command has taken several precautionary measures based on credible intelligence at its disposal.

The command said the ban has become necessary to preserve public order and safeguard lives and property of citizens throughout this festive period.

He said" The Commissioner of Police given the prevailing security concerns within the State, has placed a Ban on all forms of Processions and Religious/Traditional ceremonies in public places, in the name of any celebration. This ban became necessary to prevent any breakdown of law and order that may be capable of disrupting the peace and harmony currently being enjoyed in the state.

"He said the command has also placed a complete ban on motorcycle operators also known as (Okada or Going) in all 17 Local Government Areas of Plateau State from 25th December, 2023 to 3rd January 2024, maintaining that the total ban on commercial motorcycle operations popularly known as "okada" within Jos and Bukuru metropolis is still in force.
