26 December 2023

Hoodlums suspected to be cultists have killed a Benin-based cinematographer and presenter working with Independent Television, Mr Hilary Odia, in Edo State.

City and Crime gathered that Odia was allegedly shot dead on Christmas Eve at his residence located on Esigie Street in Oredo LGA of the state.

It was gathered that the suspected cultists also killed a vigilante commander and two other persons in the area bringing the total casualties to four.

The vigilante, identified as Osasu, was reportedly ambushed and shot dead at Iyobosa while the two other casualties were shot at Nekpen-nekpen and Uwa streets respectively.

A source said there was a fight between Eiye and Black Axe, adding that some of the victims may have been innocently caught in the crossfire of the rival cult groups.

A police source told City and Crime that only two people were killed while one who sustained injury is received treatment at the hospital.

When contacted, the Edo State Police Command's spokesman, Chidi Nwanbuzor, confirmed the incident saying he was however yet to get full details of the incident.
