Nigeria: AU Commission Chairperson Strongly Condemns Deadly Attacks On Civilians in Plateau State, Nigeria

Addis Ababa, 31 December 2023: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemns the heinous attacks by terrorists in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria during the festive season, resulting in the reported 195 deaths and more than 20,000 people displaced.

The Chairperson extends heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and, in particular, to the affected communities, while wishing speedy recovery to those injured in the atrocious attacks.

The Chairperson expresses the AU's solidarity with Nigeria at this difficult time, and reaffirms AU's total condemnation of all manifestations of terrorism and violent extremism. He further reiterates the AU Commission's commitment to scale -up support for Member States countering terrorism in order to attain a peaceful and secure Africa.
