Nigeria: We're Reaching Out to Party Hierarchy Over Invasion of Secretariat - Benue APC

5 February 2024

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State on Sunday said it was doing everything to seek justice from the party's national secretariat over the recent invasion of its office in Makurdi.

Martinez Tyotsume, the Director of Media and ICT of APC in Benue, who made this known to journalists in Makurdi, said the invasion of the party's secretariat in Makurdi on February 1st by security operatives was disturbing and needed to be nipped before it spiralled out of control.

"We are trying to reach out to the national secretariat of our party to see how to handle the use of the military to disrupt activities at the secretariat. We are not rushing because we are just but a state chapter of the party so we must inform them of everything.

"For the cost of damage, in the coming days we are going to engage professionals who will come here and quantify in monetary terms the cost of damage at the secretariat," he said.

Tyotsume further explained that the invasion of the secretariat happened while the party state executives were playing host to the Owukpa Ehaje 1 ward executive who were on a solidarity visit to the APC state secretariat in Makurdi.

Tyotsume contended that while the courtesy call on the state party chairman was ongoing, some security men broke into the secretariat and chased away everyone, alleging that in the process, they destroyed the property of the party and carted away other valuables such as phones and computers.
