Nigeria: Makinde Wades Into Iyaloja-General Crisis in Oyo

14 April 2024

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has waded into the crisis rocking the leadership of market unions in the state, warning the parties against fomenting trouble in the state.

The governor who intervened in the ongoing dispute over the position urges those promoting division to cease their actions.

The controversy, sparked by conflicting claims to the title by Princess Folashade Abeo and Alhaja Saratu Aduke, has caused unrest within the market community, raising concerns about its impact on commerce and unity in the state.

Makinde while addressing the issue at his Ikolaba private residence emphasized the need for unity and discipline, calling on those behind the discord to refrain from further exacerbating tensions.

"Two days ago when I went to break the Ramadan fast with Alhaji Hazim Gbolarumi, I have not even left there, before speculation started spreading that an authentic Iyaloja general was there.

"Who is not authentic? Who are the people behind fanning disunity among us? This is why I want to use this opportunity to felicitate with Muslims and to note the lesson to be learned from this Ramadan period, which is discipline." Makinde said.
