Nigeria: APC Stakeholders Want Chairmanship Returned to N/Central

22 April 2024

The All Progressives Congress (APC) North Central Stakeholders Forum has called on the party to return its national chairmanship to the North Central zone in the spirit of fairness, equity and justice.

The call was made during a press briefing in Abuja Sunday by the forum's convener, Muhammad Saidu Etsu, alongside other party stakeholders.

They appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party's National Executive Committee to realign the APC's leadership and ensure that the North Central regains the national chairmanship position which the zone lost after Senator Abdullahi Adamu's resignation.

Etsu stressed that restoring the North Central's representation in this role would honour the mandate entrusted to the zone in 2022, foster unity within the party and bolster the APC's national strength.

He pointed out the significant electoral support the president received from the North Central during the last general elections, underscoring the zone's strategic importance within the party.

Since the former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, assumed the party's leadership post-Adamu's resignation in July 2023, there has been ongoing contention, especially from the NorthCentral APC members advocating for the completion of Adamu's tenure by a representative from their zone.

President Tinubu had endorsed Ganduje, a decision later ratified by the party's National Executive Committee.
