Private school proprietors, under the aegis of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPP, have appealed to government to provide adequate security, reduce taxes, and make policies that would aid their operations.
This appeal was made at a one-day capacity building training, themed "Quality Assurance Compliance & Safety Precautions in Schools," organized by NAPPS in Lagos.
While addressing the participants, Chairman of Alimosho chapter of NAPPS, Bodunde Samuel emphasized the need for collaboration with the government to ensure that private schools operated within the purview of the law.
He said: "The reason for NAPPS' collaboration with the government is for us to understand the policies of the government better to avoid violations. While we are doing this, we are appealing to the government to always support private schools in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.
"They should help us in terms of security, in terms of running quality schools and reducing our taxes by eradicating double taxation. These are things the government can do for us to ease the pressure on us."
The President of NAPPS, Lagos State chapter, Chief Alaka Yusuf Lukman, expressed optimism that the training would help private school teachers to prepare adequately for the resumption of school.
Lukman, who also called on the government to address the dues paid by private school owners, said: "The training is important for our teachers to get them prepared for the resumption of school.
"Our teachers must get it right in areas of safety and quality control. Safety, in terms of structure, in terms of students, in terms of even the parents that are dropping the children, in terms of what should happen in the school environment, and in terms of themselves."
