Nigeria: Nasarawa United Beat Wikki Tourists to Nnl Playoff Ticket

28 April 2024

A 42nd minute equaliser by Terdoo Shimagande was all Nasarawa United needed to beat Wikki Tourists to the Super 8 Play-off of the 2023/24 Nigeria National League.

In the last game of the Conference C fixture, the 'Solid Miners' trailed Zamfara United in the 40th minute when Namadi Ahmad netted for his side.

The lead lasted for only two minutes as Nasarawa United attacker, Terdoo Shimagande drew the 'Solid Miners' level after dribbling past three defenders.

The energetic striker had his earlier goal disallowed for an offside.

The draw has thus guaranteed Nasarawa United a place in the Super Eight Play-off with 33 points from 16 games alongside table-toppers, El-Kanemi Warriors FC, who have a point more.

In his post- match interview, Nasarawa United Coach Adams Usman said "I am overwhelmed because the people of Nasarawa State have always stood by us, especially the Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, his Deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the Supporters' Club and the good people of the State.

"I am so happy that at the end of the proceedings, we are able to get a slot to play in the Super Eight Play-off. This is a collective victory."

No date nor venue has been fixed for the Super 8 Play-off.

Meanwhile, Nasarawa United will head straight to Kaduna where they have a date to keep with FC Bako of Kogi State in the round of 64 of the 2024 Men's President Federation Cup on Wednesday, May 1 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
