Nigeria: Warri Boys Call for Peaceful Coexistence Among Ethnic Groups

29 April 2024

The Warri Boys Association in Lagos has called for peaceful coexistence among all ethnic groups in Delta State and across Nigeria.

Speaking at the N1 billion appeal fund raising for the building of a multipurpose complex in Warri, weekend, guest speaker of the event, Prof. Hope Ehgagha, in his lecture themed 'Managing Ethnic Diversity in a Plural Society,' tasked members of the association to see Warri as the hope of Delta State.

Ehgagha said: "Warri is the hope of all of us. We must find a way to live in peace with one another if we are bound by geography. A modern state is about managing diversity. Every part of the federation must be respected.

"The spirit of give and take is crucial to managing diversity, and the time to straighten the federal system is now. Any society that is based on ethnicity cannot have the best. There is a need for unity, and we all need one another."

On his part, the former president of the association, Pius Enakirakpo, lamented how efforts to establish industries in Warri were frustrated by vandals.

He called on royal fathers in the region to appeal to the youth in the region to toe the path of peace for Warri to develop.

"We want to bring back the glory of Warri. The project we have in mind is what the government should be doing. It is time our kings come together and preach unity," he added.
