Overview

The African Development Bank's Statistics Department, in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics Rwanda (NISR), will host the Second Edition of the Innovate Africa Symposium on 2-4 October 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda. Centered on "Strengthening Data Governance in the African Data Ecosystem," the symposium will address recent significant advancements in data governance that will ultimately benefit the entire continent, highlighting the pivotal role of robust data governance frameworks in harnessing data for socio-economic growth in the digital era.

Participants will include an eclectic mix of leaders from government, civil society, the private sector, academia, and international organizations who will deliberate on enhancing transparency, efficiency, and innovation through effective data governance.

Symposium sessions will be both plenary and panel discussions. Parallel sessions exploring different dimensions of data governance will take place on Innovation & Strategy, Platforms & Process, and Case Studies & Technology Demos.

Call for Presentations

Participants interested in contributing presentations for the diverse tracks and sessions of the symposium are warmly invited to submit their proposals here: Submit your presentation proposal

Presentations should address aspects of data governance, covering topics from but not limited to the following list.

  • Data catalog and lineage
  • Data quality management
  • Privacy, compliance, and data protection
  • Accountability and ownership in data governance
  • Data anonymization techniques
  • Lifecycle management of public sector data
  • Enhancing data security in government
  • Metadata and master data management
  • Innovations in ICT for data governance
  • Strategies for engaging stakeholders in data governance

Submissions may focus on specific tracks:

  • Innovation & Strategy: Delving into innovative data governance frameworks and strategies pertinent to the public sector.
  • Platforms & Process: Analyzing platforms and processes that underpin effective data governance and management.
  • Case Studies & Technology Demo: Presenting insightful case studies of successful data governance implementations and lessons learned, along with demonstrations of technological tools that bolster data governance practices.

We are seeking submissions from individuals affiliated with national agencies -- National Statistical Offices, Central Banks, etc.) and academia. Submissions will be selected process. Selected presenters from government agencies and academia could benefit from sponsorship to participate in the Symposium. Academics will be requested to provide Digital Object Identifier (DOI) references for their scientific publications related to the symposium theme and the subject of their presentation proposal.

International organizations and private sector are also encouraged to submit their proposals. This is an opportunity to share your experience, tools, processes, and insights related to data governance, enhancing the collective knowledge and strategies among symposium attendees.
