Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced a plan by his administration to set up a panel of inquiry into the governance of the state.
Governor Fubara stated this on Monday after swearing in Dagogo Iboroma as the Attorney General of the state shortly after the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) was screened and confirmed by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led House of Assembly.
Addressing the new attorney general, Fubara said, "Why are we bringing you at this very critical time? We have a lot of issues around us. We believe that you are not going to be the one who, when they send service to you, goes and files "nolle prosequi" or one thing that would kill us here."
"Let me also say this: you have a big task. We will be setting up a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the affairs of governance. So, brace up; I am not going back on it," he added.
While the governor did not specify the time frame that the panel would probe, there has been a running battle between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to which he admitted that the state is in a critical situation where it has become obvious that the political crisis cannot be resolved.
Daily Trust reports that the screening and confirmation of Iboroma took place on Monday at the Press Unit of the Government House in Port Harcourt, where the factional assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo has adopted as its chamber following an executive order by Governor Fubara relocating the chamber to the government house.
The confirmation of Iboroma comes about two weeks after the resignation of the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Zaccheaus Adangor, an ally of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Adangor resigned after he was redeployed to the State Ministry of Special Duties (Governor's Office).
