South Africa: Tyla Ties with Beyonce with Four BET Award Nominations

Tyla Makes performs at South Africa's Hey Neighbour Festival Amid Heineken's 150-year Anniversary Celebrations.

Our girl is on a roll. Shortly after winning her first Grammy for Best African Performance, Water star Tyla has been nominated for not one, but four, BET Awards.

This puts her in an even kneel with Beyonce, also nominated for four awards. Both artists received nods for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Viewers Choice Award.

Tyla will throw her hat in the ring for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, Viewer's Choice Award and Best International Act.

The awards celebrate Black excellence in the entertainment industry, including sports, film and TV.

The rest of the globe faces stiff competition from the African continent this year.

Okayafrica.com listed Burna Boy (Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Best Male Hip Hop Artist), Tems (Video Director of the Year and Dr. Bobby Jones (Best Gospel/Inspirational Award).

South Africa's Makhadzi, Ayra Starr and Focalistic are also on the list.

Canadian rapper Drake leads with the most nominations (7), followed by Nicki Minaj with six.

The BET Awards will air live from Los Angeles on June 30.
