Nigeria: Minimum Wage - 32 Labour Unions Join NLC/TUC Indefinite Nationwide Strike

Several affiliate unions complied with the joint directive of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike action that began at midnight on June 3, 2024.

The industrial action was in response to the Federal Government's refusal to increase the proposed minimum wage from N60,000 and reverse the electricity tariff hike to N65/kWh.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and his TUC counterpart, Festus Osifo, expressed disappointment over the government's failure to pass a new National Minimum Wage Act. Despite negotiations, the government's offer of N60,000 was rejected by the parent Labour Unions, and talks collapsed last Tuesday.
