Nigeria: Sallah - FRSC Cautions Drivers, Motor Parks On Alcohol

The Edo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned drivers against the consumption of alcohol while on duty and motor parks against the sales of alcohol.

The Sector Commander, Paul Okpe, gave the warning while delivering the message of the Corps Marshal, Marshal Mohammed Shehu, during a meeting with transport stakeholders in the state with the aim of reducing road accidents in the country.

Okpe said, "Today's event is to mark the beginning of the corps marshal's special patrol for Sallah. The message of the corps marshal is that we should work with drivers, transport unions and other stakeholders to ensure a safe driving culture and thereby reduce accidents in Edo and the entire country.

"We are carrying out sensitisation at the various parks, cautioning drivers against drinking alcohol while driving, because it makes them not to imbibe safety culture and the resultant effect is accidents.

"So, we invited the chairmen of parks and their members for this meeting. They will go back to their various parks and sensitise their members and ensure that they imbibe driving safety culture by avoiding alcohol and other things that hinder good driving."

He also charged passengers to always caution drivers against over-speeding and taking alcohol.

The Vice Chairman of the Warri Motor Park, Benin City, Iyean Sunday, assured that they would join FRSC in the campaign with a view to reduce accidents.

He said, "Were are here to receive the message of the corps marshal. We will take the message down to our members and ensure that they avoid alcohol while driving."
