Nigeria: Tension As 'Unknown' Soldier Allegedly Stabs Man to Death in Abuja

20 June 2024

One of Abuja's largest mechanic villages popularly called "Kugbo Mechanic" located on the Abuja -Keffi Expressway was on Thursday thrown into confusion, following reports that a yet-to-be-identified soldier had allegedly stabbed an auto electrician to death.

Vanguard gathered that the incident was as a result of a heated argument between the soldier and the electrician simply identified as "Yellow".

While some accounts said the electrician had assaulted the soldier in the heat of the argument following which the soldier retaliated by stabbing him, others said the soldier was never assaulted, but decided to stab the deceased following the verbal altercation.

The development led to a protest by the deceased's colleagues in the market leading to the burning down of the soldier's car, who had ran for his dear life.

A trader in the area who did not want his name mentioned, said the situation triggered fears, making shop owners to close their shops and scamper to safety.

"The soldier came with a car for the electrician to do something on it, after some time, they started an argument and the soldier brought out a knife to defend himself and stab the man to death, and then ran away.

"His car was also burnt by colleagues of the deceased. But the situation is calm now because few police men came into the market."

Another spare parts dealer, who also refused to disclose his name, said; "The soldier came with the car first to me but I told him that I was busy, he should give another person. They started a heated argument resulting in the killing of the electrician and the consequent burning of the soldier's vehicle"
