Nigeria: 2 FCT Farmers Drown While Crossing River Gurara

Two farmers, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, reportedly drowned while crossing River Gurara at Daku village in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Daku shares border with Chakumi village in Abaji Area Council through the river.

A resident of Daku village, Samson Haruna, said the incident happened around 9am on Monday when the two farmers were trying to cross the heavily flooded river to their farms.

He said, "When they arrived at the river bank and there was nobody to cross them, they took the risk to wade through the river. Unfortunately, it was raining heavily, and before they realised what was happening, they got drowned as the river overflowed."

He said their corpses were yet to be recovered, adding that efforts were ongoing by some fishermen to recover them.

The spokeswoman of the FCT police, SP Adeh Josephine, said the command was not aware of the incident, promising to find out.
