Nigeria: Reactions As Fire Guts Section of Dangote Refinery

Reactions yesterday trailed the minor fire outbreak at a section of Dangote refinery with some groups warning against sabotage against the refinery.

Daily Trust reports that there was a fire outbreak on Wednesday morning at a section of Dangote Refinery at Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

Though the cause of the fire could not be ascertained as of press time, workers at the refinery were evacuated out of the building amidst panic.

A source said only a part of the building was affected and that the fire has been contained.

In a statement, Anthony Chiejina, spokesman of Dangote Group, said, "We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP), today Wednesday 26th of June.

"There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty."

Reacting to the incident, a Northern group, Arewa Think Tank (ATTK) stated that those who don't want the owner of Dangote Refinery, Aliko Dangote, to succeed were behind the fire incident.

The group, which described such persons as enemies of Nigeria, added that they were also out to frustrate President Bola Tinubu's government from succeeding in making socioeconomic life better for the citizenry.

In a statement on Wednesday by the Chief Convener of Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu said, "Enemies of Nigeria are at work, those who don't want Dangote and Tinubu to succeed, Nigeria and Nigerians will eventually triumph."

Speaking in the same vein, the President of Yoruba Welfare Group, Comrade Abdulhakeem Alawuje expressed shock over the incident, saying it was not a mere coincidence that it happened a day after the management of the refinery raised an alarm about the gang up of the International Oil Companies against the success of the venture.
