Nigeria: Man Sued for Insulting Neighbour Over Stray Dog

A man identified as Mustapha Yahaya has been dragged to a Shari'a Court at Shahuchi in Kano State over alleged defamation of character of his neighbour following a disagreement on the way a stray dog was maltreated.

He, however, denied the charges and the khadi granted him bail under the condition that he lives peacefully with his neighbour.

The accused allegedly rained verbal attacks on his neighbor, who advised him to stop maltreating the dog, which he claimed was always barking at him.

Similarly, another man, Hamisu Musa Rijiyar Lemo, has been dragged to a Shari'a Court at Kurna in the state over an alleged infliction of injury on one Abdurrazak Adamu following a disagreement.

When the charges were read to him, he pleaded guilty and the prosecution demanded his immediate conviction. However, Khadi Shamsuddeen Ado Abdullahi granted the accused bail, considering that his mother had died during his arraignment.

The case was adjourned till August 1, 2024 when the court will review the health condition of the plaintiff.
