Nigeria: Imo Assembly Suspends 4 Members Over 'Impeachment Plot'

Four members of the Imo State House of Assembly have been suspended for allegedly plotting to remove speaker Chike Olemgbe from his position.

The suspended legislators include Samuel Otuibe (representing Ahiazu-Mbaise), Henry Agbasonu (representing Ezinihitte-Mbaise), Chidiebere Ogbunikpa (representing Okigwe), and Dominic Ezerioha (representing Oru-West).

Speaker Olemgbe announced their suspensions during a plenary session yesterday, stating that the decision was taken in an executive section meeting.

The speaker also declared that all committee responsibilities held by the suspended members have been revoked.

In a brief session, the speaker announced minor reshuffles of the standing committees. The suspended members declined to speak to the press.
