Nigeria: 2 Killed As Tanker Explodes On Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan Expressway

Two people have been killed in a petrol tanker accident that occurred in Imope village in Oru Ijebu on the Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The accident, which involved a tanker with registration number, T 623 LA X, claimed the lives of the driver, Salau Semiu, and his assistant, simply identified as Saheed.

Police spokeswoman in the state, Omolola Odutola, said the accident occurred around 10am on Saturday when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Odutola said the truck was carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from Pinnacle Petrol Depot in Lagos and was travelling to Oyo State when it veered off the road and overturned, resulting in an explosion.

She further said, "We initiated an investigation into the accident, with the scene being visited by the Divisional Police Officer, Oru Division, who mobilised traffic personnel to halt vehicular movement, as well as the Ogun State Fire Service, who responded swiftly and the inferno was surmounted."
