Nigeria: Imo LGA Election - APGA National Chairman Visits Isiec, Begs for Extension of Time

Owerri - The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Edozie Njoku, on Sunday, said it has pleaded with the Imo state Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, to extend the time for the submission of the list of candidates ahead of the Imo local government election scheduled to hold September 21, 2024.

Edozie spoke to newsmen in Owerri, after visiting the ISIEC office, located along Orlu Road, Owerri.

Edozie who the National Secretary of the party represented, Muyideen Imam said: "We have visited the ISIEC office in Imo state, on a visit to the chairman, and appreciated the executive governor of the state, Hope Uzodimma, for the planned local government election. This is the way to go.

"Secondly, we notified the commission of our determination to participate in the local government election. We have equally because of the timeframe we have written an application to the commission for an extension of time considering the circumstances and the commission has deemed it right having spoken with the chairman. They have granted us our application."

Reacting, the Imo state Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, Mr. Charles Ejiogu, said: "Recently, one of the leading political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came and asked for an extension of time during the last inter-party advisory stakeholders meeting we had last time. It was unanimously agreed that their request be granted.

"So APGA has come and we have given APGA, seven days to round up, in order not to convolute the process of our guidelines and timetable. We are very much ready to conduct this election. The commission has assured all registered political parties a level playing ground."
