Nigeria: 'I Swear, I'll Kill' - Policeman Threatens Kano Protesters

4 August 2024

A police officer in Kano, where the #EndBadGovernance protests have escalated into violence, was captured on video openly threatening to kill protesters.

The unrest in the city saw hoodlums looting both government and private properties, leading to clashes with security forces.

The violent outbreak reached a peak at the Government House in Kano, prompting authorities to implement a curfew under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's orders.

Despite the curfew, some protesters defied the restrictions and continued to challenge security forces on the streets.

A video circulating online depicts a policeman, speaking in Hausa, threatening protesters amidst the chaos.

The officer is heard saying, "Keep looting. Is it because I did not do what I had done to them? Those throwing stones should not stop. I swear to God, if police officers bleed, I will kill. I swear to God I will kill."
