Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has said the government has signed agreements with various entrepreneurs interested in investing in mechanised agriculture in the state.
Otti made the remarks while speaking with newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital, adding that the investors were preparing to move into their chosen fields in the industry.
He said the government wants to prioritise agriculture as a catalyst for economic development, wealth creation, and employer of both direct and indirect job opportunities.
The governor further asserted that toward the objective, the government will reclaim the old farm settlements and concessioned palm plantations scattered across the state.
According to him, in view of the challenges the about 15 months old government met on assumption of office, it is making every effort to boost its revenue generating base and capacity.
"We met a very poor state of accounts but we will continue to pen down on maturing obligations. So far we have been able to operate without borrowing a dime," he noted.
Speaking generally about the government, the governor explained that being installed by the people, it doesn't have a godfather and therefore focused on delivering its agenda to honour their mandate.
