Monrovia — The Secretary General of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Jefferson Tamba Koijee, says his party will issue strict instructions to its members to resist the "political" indictment by President Joseph Boakai's administration.
This declaration follows the release on bail of two former officials from the Weah-Taylor administration: ex-Security Advisor Jefferson Karmoh and former Solicitor General Cllr. Nyenate Tuan. Both were recently arrested and detained at Monrovia Central Prison on corruption charges.
During a press conference on Friday, August 2, 2024, at the CDC headquarters in Congo Town, Koijee described the court's actions as a war on the judiciary orchestrated by President Boakai and his Unity Party government.
"Fear us because very soon, we will issue instructions and those instructions will be executed," Koijee warned, accusing the current government of witch-hunting former officials of the Weah-Taylor regime.
He emphasized that the CDC's National Executive Committee is making its stance clear publicly, asserting their control and fearlessness. Koijee criticized President Boakai, stating that at over 80 years old, he lacks the capability to intimidate the CDC, something he allegedly couldn't achieve in his younger years.
Koijee declared that the CDC is fully prepared to defend itself against what he termed as a biased judicial fight. He urged the Judicial Branch to be aware of the President's actions, which he claimed violate the rule of law.
"Mr. Boakai has launched war on the constitution, and this is equally a fight against the country's democracy," he asserted.
Koijee stressed the importance of protecting Liberia's constitution and condemned the Unity Party government as shameless and spineless, accusing it of attempting to tarnish the CDC's reputation under the guise of fighting corruption.
He affirmed that the CDC is ready to challenge the Boakai-Koung administration both legally and politically.
Koijee also announced that the party will soon communicate with its members across the country through their Zonal Chairpersons to determine their next steps.
According to our reporter, following Koijee's press conference, an emergency meeting with all Zonal Chairpersons was convened.
