Nigeria: Embark On Reforms to Strengthen Rule of Law, Ex-Rep, Luke, Charge New CJN

A former House of Representatives Committee chairman on Judiciary, Barr. Onofiok Akpan Luke has charged the new Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to embark on significant reforms that will strengthen the rule of law and enhance the image of Nigeria's justice system.

Hon. Luke gave the charge in a congratulating message to the new CJN on Sunday in Abuja.

He described the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of Justice Kekere-Ekun's outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to the legal profession.

"I am confident that, with Your Lordship's experience, the Nigerian judiciary will reach new levels of efficiency. I have no doubt that you will usher in reforms that will empower the judicial workforce and improve working conditions.

"The recent assent by President Bola Tinubu, to the bill for an upward review of the salaries and emoluments of judicial officers is a milestone that I believe will have an even greater impact under your leadership. This commitment by the Executive underscores the persistent advocacy efforts over the years, including those during my tenure as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Judiciary.

"As you embark on this new chapter, I pray that God grants you the wisdom, courage, and strength to lead the judiciary to even greater heights. I am eagerly anticipating the significant reforms during your tenure that will strengthen the rule of law and enhance the image of our justice system", he stated.
