Nigeria: Man Charged With Starving, Assaulting 11-Year-Old Stepson

A 45-year-old man, Aramide Tito, was on Monday arraigned in a Badagry magistrates' court Lagos State, for allegedly starving and assaulting his 11-year-old stepson.

The prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant, from August 17, in the Oke Ogbe area of Atura, Badagry, unlawfully beat up and starved his stepson for three days.

He said, "The defendant poured hot water on him while he was sleeping. He attempted to murder the boy while he was sleeping.

"The offences contravene Sections 135, 245 and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015."

The Magistrate, Mr A. J. Aina, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to September 25.
