Nigeria: Concerned Citizens Want Bauchi Ex-Governor to Run for 2nd Term

3 September 2024

A Bauchi group 'Bauchi Concerned Citizens Teachers' has pleaded with the immediate past governor of the state, Barr Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, to run for the governorship of Bauchi State come 2027 polls.

According to its chairman, Comrade Abubakar Umar, the group would take legal action against M.A Abubakar if he failed to heed its calls for a second term in office.

It would be recalled that the former governor won election in 2015 under the APC when he had his first tenure for four years as the chief executive of the state, but was defeated in his second term bid by the incumbent governor of Bauchi State Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.

Comrade Abubakar Umar at the end of the group's meeting yesterday in Bauchi, explained that, "We have understand that Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has democratically, politically, socially, economically, and humanely led Bauchi State for four consecutive years of his first term tenure which inspire us for a repeat of his governance".

According to him, they were particularly inspired by the former governor's style of leadership that respects the traditional institution and civil servants.

Umar stated that the group is ready to support the former governor and weather the storms of the 2027 elections, expressing optimism that Abubakar would succeed in the 2027 election.
