Nigeria: Allegation Against Fudma VC, False - Northern Coalition

12 September 2024

The Northern Coalition of Socio-Political Forum has come out in strong defense of Professor Armaya'u Hamisu Bichi, Vice Chancellor of Federal University Dutsin-ma (FUDMA), against allegations of maladministration circulating on social media.

The group described the allegations as "unnecessary distractions" and urged the public to disregard them.

The allegations, made by a former staff member, claimed that the Vice Chancellor was summoned by the House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Institutions to investigate alleged maladministration and incompetent leadership. However, the university has refuted these claims, stating that neither the Vice Chancellor nor the institution has received any official invitation.

The Northern Coalition praised Professor Bichi's record of performance, sound leadership, and financial discipline, earned over decades. They emphasized that the Vice Chancellor has a good working relationship with staff and management, driving the university's development.

The group's National President, Comrade Musa Mohammed, stated that the social media publication was a calculated attempt to damage the Vice Chancellor's reputation. He noted that the former staff member behind the allegations was dismissed by the Governing Council after due process.

The university has clarified that Professor Bichi holds great respect for the National Assembly and would honor any formal request. The Northern Coalition urged the public to disregard the misinformation and commended the Vice Chancellor's commitment to transparency and accountability.
