Nigeria: Ebonyi Govt Seals Three Petrol Stations Over Sharp Practices

12 September 2024

The Ebonyi State Government has sealed three petrol stations in Abakaliki, the state capital, due to alleged involvement in sharp practices, including meter adjustments and under-dispensing.

The Special Assistant to Governor Francis Nwifuru on Petroleum, Mr. Nwafor Nnaemeka, announced this while speaking with newsmen in Abakaliki.

Nnaemeka warned that more petrol stations would be sealed if they fail to meet the demands of the masses. He urged petroleum dealers and marketers in the 13 local government areas of the state to shun fraud and ensure fair fuel supply and distribution.

Nnaemeka attributed the fuel pump price hike to a global menace, citing unavailability of products and depot price increases. He stated that the state government has been working to prevent under-dispensing and has deployed a task force to monitor fuel stations.

The sealed petrol stations are Edde Mass, R&C, and Dozi Oil & Gas. Nnaemeka debunked allegations of fake task force agents extorting money from dealers, stating that only approved task force agents are operating in the state to checkmate sharp practices.

He emphasized that the government will not tolerate defrauding of the masses and that those found guilty will face the full wrath of the law.
