Nigeria: Man Arrested for Murder of Neighbour's Wife, Son

17 September 2024

The Lagos Police Command has arrested one Vincent Ukpai for the murder of his neighbour's wife and son in the Lekki area. The incident occurred during a dispute over the responsibility of cleaning their shared compound.

According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the argument escalated when Ukpai attacked Gloria and her son with a weapon, killing them both. Following the murders, Ukpai reportedly concealed the bodies in a large bag, commonly known as a "Ghana Must Go" bag.

Hundeyin said the police received information about the killings on September 5 at approximately 10:55 PM. "Detectives from the Elemoro Police Station in Lekki swiftly responded to the scene, leading to Ukpai's arrest. The bodies of Gloria and her son were recovered and transported to the Epe General Hospital Mortuary for autopsy and preservation. The investigation is ongoing," he said.

In a separate incident, a 54-year-old man named Olatinji was found dead in Agege, Lagos, after committing suicide. The deceased was discovered hanging from the ceiling of a store.
