Nigeria: Makinde Flags-Off N41bn Ibadan Airport Upgrade

18 September 2024

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, yesterday, flagged off the upgrade of the Ibadan airport, renamed Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to international standards, saying it will transform the state into a regional economic hub.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the project, held at the airport premises will gulp N41 billion for the first phase of the upgrade.

The governor revealed that his administration has been committed to upgrading the airport since 2019, with a clear vision to transform Ibadan into a regional business hub in the southwest zone.

Makinde said: "Our focus is on fighting poverty, not the poor.

"The upgrade of the SLA Airport is expected to enhance air travel operations and provide a reliable transportation network for both business and leisure travellers, positioning Oyo State for economic growth and development."

In his remarks, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, who was the special guest, described Governor Makinde as a "true actualiser" of development projects.
