Africa: Group Harps On More Investment in Africa to Curb Poverty

Osogbo — A Pan-African youth group, Africa Solidarity Movement, ASM, has stressed the need for African leaders to invest more in the continent to tackle rising poverty.

A statement signed by the Secretary General of the group, Abdulmajeed Oyeniyi, and made available to journalists in Osogbo, said African leaders, must as a matter of urgency chart an African course towards becoming productive, while maintaining their rightful position globally.

Oyeniyi stated that the group youths summit that took place in Ghana recently harped on collaboration among youths in the continent in the area of information communication technology and the promotion of cultural heritage.

"There is a need to ensure deliberate unity among the countries in Africa, as part of the ways to drive the speedy pace of development in the continent. We called for an increase in investment in economic and social development factors to improve the development index of African nations.

"During our summit which took place in Ghana, we honoured some prominent African sons and daughters who have contributed immensely to the development of their countries", the statement added.

Meanwhile among those honoured at the event include Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, General Christopher Musa OFR; Chief of Defence Nigeria; Ambassador of Youth in Africa; High Chief Habeeb Okunola also as Ambassador of Youth in Africa, among several others.
