Nigeria: Ilorin 1st Female Prof Appointed VC Kwara University of Education

The Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has appointed Prof. Medinat Salman as the pioneer vice chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED), Ilorin.

The appointment, the government said, is with immediate effect.

City & Crime reports that Salman is the first female professor from the Ilorin Emirate appointed in 2018.

She will serve in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive vice chancellor for the new institution.

A professor of Mathematics Education, Salman was until her appointment, a lecturer at the department of Science Education and coordinator of the Educational Technology Centre at the University of Ilorin.

She received her Bachelor of Education from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 1985; a Master's degree in Mathematics Education at the University of Ilorin in 1990, and a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education from University of Ilorin in 1998.

Her research interests are Mathematics Education, gender issues in mathematics and science education, and innovation in mathematics education in the developing world.
