The Nigerian Police have said that six persons were arrested for various electoral offences during Saturday's governorship election in Edo State. Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the election, Frank Mba, disclosed this in Benin, at a news conference, yesterday.

"We have made a total of six arrests, and we expect this number to increase as we expand our investigations. We recovered four weapons of different mixes, life ammunition, 58 voters cards in unlawful possession, stolen BVAS machines, and some cash," Mba stated.

He described the governorship poll as peaceful and a successful exercise with the Nigerian Police Force playing a pivotal role in maintaining law and order.

Mba commended the people of Edo for their exemplary conduct during the elections.

"The good people of Edo have conducted themselves commendably throughout the election process. "We thank them for trusting and working with us," the DIG said. Mba also praised the officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force, members of the Armed Forces, and other law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and neutrality during the polls.
