On the sidelines of the 2024 West and Central Africa Wheat Summit, taking place this week in Abuja, Nigeria, this high-level will showcase the role of the African Development Bank's Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation program in advancing wheat transformation across the continent.

The session will explore essential policies and investments supporting enhanced wheat production and productivity, discuss policy challenges, and map out key recommendations for the sector's transformation.

Titled "Advancing the Wheat Sector Transformation in Africa through the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation Initiative and Private Sector Engagement," the event will feature insights from selected countries that have successfully achieved significant progress in wheat transformation.

The 2024 West and Central Africa Regional Wheat Summit, scheduled for 2-3 October, is expected to draw hundreds of people working across the wheat agricultural sector. The Bank targets wheat scientists and several sector organizations such as the West and Central Africa Collaborative Wheat Network, regional agricultural research and development organizations, policymakers, and government sector agencies.

The expected outcomes of the side event include:

  • Proposals for policy reforms to support sustainable wheat production
  • Promote innovative technologies in wheat farming
  • Showcase investment opportunities in the wheat sector
  • Strategies for capacity building across the wheat value chain
