Nigeria: Group Donates 30 Desks, Exercise Books to Bauchi School

3 October 2024

A Bauchi-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Kairos Initiative, has donated desks and other learning materials including books, pencils and cleaners to a primary school in Birshi Gandu, a community in Bauchi LGA of the state.

Speaking during the donation, Executive Director of Kairos Initiative, Dr Moji Iheme, said the organization embarked on a need assessment and realised that the school was in dire need of the desks as there was none in the classrooms.

Iheme explained, "We discovered that the school's management and the pupils wanted the desks so dearly. You can imagine children going from primary school to secondary school and they never sat on desks. How are they going to write exams?

"So, we decided to provide them with these 30 desks and each one would accommodate four pupils and that makes like 120 pupils," she said.

She added that the group was also looking at how to fix the leaking roofs in the school, adding that it would be done if the school management exhibited a high level of maintenance culture on the desks and other items provided.

Responding, Assistant Headmaster of the school, Hasana Shehu, who thanked the group for the intervention, promised to take care of the desks.
