Nigeria: PDP Holds Congress in Kano, Vows to Reclaim Power in 2027

The major opposition political party, People's Democratic Party, PDP, has commenced the conduct of it state congress in Kano.

Also, the party vowed to bounce back strong and form a formidable party to reclaim power in 2027.

The party's Northwest Zonal National Vice Chairman, Sen. Bello Hayyatu Gwarzo, who stated this during the delegate congress in Kano on Saturday, said the party will triumph in the 2027 elections.

Senator Gwarzo spoke in high spirits, expressings optimism that PDP will make a good outing across the country in the 2027 general elections.

He said: "We are trying to create a solid foundation that will revive the party in the state and across the nation.

"We want to ensure all hands are on deck, which will guarantee our victory in the forthcoming elections to deliver dividend of democracy to the people as evident from our past records," he said.

Senator Gwarzo insisted that PDP in the state remains one formidable force, noting that there was no faction in the party.

In the same vein, the chairman electoral panel, Halilu Mazagani, delegated by the party's national headquarters to observe the congress, applauded the party officials at the state level for a job well done.

He said the smooth conduct of the congress is an indication that PDP will soon settle existing differences between some persons within the party for a better and stronger opposition that can defeat the ruling party.

In his words: "I assure you today that we are working hard to ensure unity and we are mobilizing like never before to ensure our success in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

"I can confidently say the people will vote us. So it is now left to us to present them with credible candidates like we have done before and we wish to improve on that," Mazagani said.

Speaking also at the event, an elder of the party, Dr. Umar Musa who represented former governor of the State, Sen. Ibrahim Shekarau said the party will produce a winning team who can match in any election.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that there were 39 available seats to be filled during the congress.

Four offices, which include office of the Chairman, Organizing Secretary, Ex-officio Kano South (male and female) were contested for.
