The figure of fatalities of last Tuesday night's petrol tanker explosion in the Majia community in Taura local government area of Jigawa has continued to rise with over 180 persons so far confirmed dead and over 80 persons still in the hospitals.
Governor Umar Namadi, who confirmed the latest figure while playing host to his Sokoto state counterpart Ahmed Aliyu at the Government House Dutse on Sunday, however, assured some of the victims were making steady recovery going by the reports he has been receiving.
The Sokoto governor, who made a donation N100 million to Jigawa state to take care of the medical bills of the injured persons, described the incident as disheartening and sad, saying his state would continue to be in solidarity with Jigawa, going by the long history of close collaboration between the two states.
Namadi thanked Gov. Aliyu for identifying with the state in it's most difficult and trying moments. He assured his guest that the money and other donations so far received would be channeled into catering for the victims.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District, Babangida Hussaini has assured the people of Majia of his desire to join the federal and state authorities in rebuilding the community so that it could return to normal life.
He, however, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's swift response to the plights of the victims of the tragic fire accident that claimed 172 lives.
The senator made the observation, during an interaction newsmen in Dutse on Sunday after conferring with Governor Umar Namadi at Government House.

Hussaini whose district covers Taura, aluded to the federal government delegation under the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief George Akume to the state on Thursday, described the action as a clear indication of the president's concern to welfare and wellbeing of Nigerians.
He also paid condolence and sympathy visits to the families and relatives of the deceased and the injured people at Majia village the scene of the accident.
Hussaini expressed his deep condolences and sympathized with the bereaved families, offering prayers for those who lost their lives in the disaster.
According to him "This devastating incident has left an unimaginable impact on the community, and my thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families during this difficult time".
"In addition to offering my condolences, I have donated ₦10 million to support the surviving victims who are currently receiving medical care in various hospitals across the state," he stated.
The senator also called on relevant government agencies and organisations to provide necessary relief and support to the affected families. He urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid hazardous practices during emergencies.
