Nigeria: How French Tech Lagos Empowered Women in Tech

Committed to fostering parity and inclusion, French Tech Lagos recently held a conference tagged, 'Empowering Women in Tech: A French-Nigerian Dialogue on Diversity, Leadership and Innovation,' which brought together industry leaders and experts to discuss the importance of gender equality and inclusion in the tech sector.

The conference which held on Tuesday at Mike Adenuga Centre, Ikoyi, Lagos featured two panel discussions with the topics; "Investment as a catalyst for gender equality and inclusion in tech" and "Women's leadership in sustainable innovation: Towards social and environmental impact in Africa".

Speakers include; Lehle Balde, founding editor of BusinessDay Weekender, Titi Savage, COO - Bluebulb, Kristin Wilson, founder of Spurt, Julie Lanckriet, chief operating officer of Koolbooks among others.

The panelists emphasized the need for increased investment in women-led tech startups and the importance of creating opportunities for women in leadership roles. They highlighted the unique perspectives and contributions that women bring to the tech industry and urged companies to prioritize gender equality in their operations.

In his opening remarks, consul general of France in Lagos, Laurent Favier, said the event reflects Mission French Tech's long-standing commitment to gender parity and fostering inclusive innovation in the French and Nigerian tech ecosystems as well as strengthening Nigeria's thriving tech sector. "Of the almost five hundred tech startups in the country, less than 10 percent are women-owned," he said.
