·Urge govt to replace outdated cables

Coleman Wires and Cables Limited has advised the government on the need to replace outdated cables that have exceeded their shelf life, leading to inefficiencies across the power distribution system.

Speaking against the backdrop of the recent power outages, Managing Director of Coleman Wires and Cables, Mr. George Onafowokan, called on Nigeria's Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to urgently address the aging infrastructure contributing to the frequent collapse of the national grid.

Onafowokan who said it is important to upgrade critical infrastructure, explained that many cables in use are no longer fit for purpose, resulting in frequent grid failures that have significantly impacted the manufacturing sector.

He said these failures have affected manufacturers, forcing many to rely on costly alternatives such as diesel-powered generators.

He stated: "Manufacturing costs are skyrocketing due to energy costs, and this is making it difficult for businesses to remain viable. Rising diesel prices have further compounded the problem, with many businesses struggling to keep operations running", Onafowokan stated.
