Nigeria: Financial Autonomy - Nigerians Must Demand Good Governance From LG Bosses - APC Chieftain

Nigerians have been charged to demand good governance from elected local government officials across the country to justify financial autonomy granted the tier of government.

This was disclosed by the Director-General, Tinubu-Shettima Youth Ambassadors, Oladele Oyelude while speaking on means to achieve good governance at the grassroots in Osogbo on Saturday.

He said the Bola Tinubu-led administration has helped grassroots dwellers by wrestling power from state governors and deposited same with the local government chairman to endear development to the grassroots.

"We should begin to focus on enthroning good governance at the grassroots. Nigerians must seize the opportunity of financial autonomy to the local government to put elected officials at the tier of government on their toes. We should follow their budget and ensure effective implementation.

"The present administration has set the path for us, we must take ownership of the local government and ensure value for every allocation given to elected officials at that level before they become another monster", he said

He also disclosed that the ongoing debate on the Tax Reform Bill by Northern Governors is unnecessary saying the National Assembly should be allowed to do justice to it but stressed that the bill of holistically viewed could challenge the governors' creativity.

"The present hue over Tax Reform Bill before the National Assembly, genuinely, is to help endear equity financially. However, the public outburst of the Northern Governors is unnecessary. The lawmaker would do the needful, if there is a need for adjustment or outright corrections. That is their responsibility and the noise is really unnecessary", he added.
